La Tabardy
Magnificent Perigourdine farmhouse with luxury accommodation for up to 12 people
This beautifully restored farmhouse is approached along a private road and driveway
through the vines of Clos dYvigne. It marries the luxurious comforts of modern
living to the charm of a French country house that dates back to the 18th century and
earlier.
There are spectacular views over Bergerac and the valley of the Dordogne, while to the
west the chateau and church of Saussignac are silhouetted on the skyline. The view to the
south takes in the vineyard and the chateau of Gageac.
La Tabardy is built in pale stone with terracotta-tiled floors throughout. The renovation
integrated the adjoining chai into the house, creating a large, airy salon with lime
beams, a traditional open stone fireplace and huge patio doors opening on to the side
terrace.
Leading off the salon is the large and superbly equipped kitchen. It has been designed to
serve both the dining area in the salon and meals on the back terrace or in the
garden. This stone pillared terrace runs the length of the building on the garden
side of the house with a second terrace looking onto the swimming pool and provides a broad covered area for eating, recreation
or just sitting and enjoying the spectacular views.
There are three double bedrooms on the ground floor. Two further double bedrooms are on
the first floor. The studio at the end of the terrace has a separate side entrance and
provides living and sleeping space for two people. Each of the bedrooms and the
studio has their own bathroom.
From the swimming pool one looks down through sloping vines to the orchards, farms and
vineyards in the valley of the Dordogne and towards the town of Bergerac. At 12x6 metres
the pool and its generous stone surrounds can cope with large parties of swimmers and sun
bathers.

Madame Cholets Beautiful Perigourdine

terrace.

Travelling to and from Clos dYvigne
By air
Bergerac airport is only 15 minutes from the vineyard and the airport is now served by two
airlines and eight different airports from the UK: Ryanair from Stansted, Liverpool and East Midlands and Flybe from Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham, Exeter and Leeds/Bradford. There are taxi and car rental services at the
airport.
By car
From Calais it is about an 8 hour drive to Gageac and about 6 hours from St Malo. It is
motorway virtually all the way, although other more picturesque routes can be taken.
Local Interest and Recreational Facilities
If you can tear yourself away from the delights of La Tabardy or Madame Cholets
there is plenty of interest and entertainment within easy reach of the houses. The towns
of Bergerac and Sainte Foy la Grande have been centres of the wine trade on the river
Dordogne since medieval times. Both are about 15 kilometres from the vineyard. Within a 25
kilometres radius of Gageac there are many more chateaux and bastides (fortified towns)
than one can explore in one holiday.
Longer day trips can be taken to the upper reaches of the Dordogne and its famous old
towns of Domme, Sarlat and Rocamadour or south to Cahors and the valley of the Lot. The
world of smart shopping, galleries and opera is an hours drive away in
Bordeaux, as are the golden beaches and famous oyster beds of Arcachon.
The trip to the supermarket for provisions is not a big excursion: the massive Leclerc
supermarket and commercial centre is on the nearside outskirts of Bergerac. For local
produce, there are markets in different towns on every day of the week.
Many outdoor recreations are catered for locally. There is a golf course of international
repute just 8 kilometres away at Chateau de Vigiers and there are several smaller courses in the
district. Other sports facilities include riding, canoeing on the Dordogne or the Veziers
and tennis at Saussignac.
The beautiful ancient wine town of Saint Emilion is half an hour's drive away.
A go-kart track on the near outskirts of Bergerac is a popular attraction for children of all ages.
Last but not least, there are the vineyards. Most vineyards welcome visitors to tastings
on their premises. And, of course, guests at La Tabardy or Madame Cholets will be
given a tasting at Clos dYvigne.
